5 Reasons Why You Need an Email List
Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective ways to market your business. If you're not using email as a marketing tool, this blog post will show you why you should use email and how to get started! We'll discuss all the benefits of having an email list, and we'll also talk about the different types of email systems that are out there for you to use.
Benefits of Using an Email List
- Builds a relationship with customers
- Increases customer retention and brand loyalty by providing valuable content that your audience wants to receive
- Creates one central location for all communication
- Takes less time than other marketing strategies
- Provides a high ROI
Social media vs. email
I strongly believe that social media and email marketing are both important for your blog, but they have different purposes. Social media is great for more short-term and informal interactions with your followers while email marketing can be used to share longer content, provide exclusive access to certain things like deals or information that only subscribers get, etc.
It's also important to recognize that you really don't own your followers and you can't even talk to them any time you want. Sure, you can post whenever you want, but with social media algorithms in place, your posts don't always reach all of your followers.
When you use email you know that you're always reaching all of your followers with every email you send out. And you own your email list. No one can take it away from you or kick you off of a platform. No email marketing gets shut down like some social media has gotten shut down or sold (ie Vine.)
Benefits of Using an Email List
Builds a relationship with customers
Through email, you build up trust and credibility when you provide value to your customers through the things you send them, i.e. blog posts, helpful advice, videos, etc. They see that you're not just spamming them with ads from your products or company, but are giving them valuable content that is relevant to their interests.
Increases customer retention and brand loyalty by providing valuable content that your audience wants to receive
You're building that valuable know, like, and trust and attracting your most sincere customers to your list. It's important to keep this in mind when writing your emails. These are your most devoted fans, so you want to give them the content that they most appreciate.
In addition, your email list allows you to send out alerts about new products or upcoming events. These are customers who have already shown an interest in what you're doing by signing up for emails and might be more likely to show up at a party as a result of getting these
Creates one central location for all communication
People are more likely to open emails than they would be to return back to a website, so your email list allows you one central location where all your communication with customers can happen. Traditional marketing methods take time and money that most blog owners don't have in order to do the same thing effectively. Once people sign up for an email list, you can communicate with them regularly to keep them informed about what's going on.
Takes less time than other marketing strategies
Email marketing is a very low-cost and effective way to market your blog. Unlike other forms of marketing, it doesn't take much time or money on the part of the blogger to get set up with an email list - just minutes! It takes less time because you're not physically going door to door or spending countless hours making calls trying to drum up clients. Plus it takes less time to maintain. You really only need a few minutes a week to schedule your email newsletter.
Provides a high ROI
If you have a list of customers who want to hear from you via email, they are more likely to purchase something that is advertised in your emails. This could include anything from a product or service related to the blog post contents all the way up to affiliate offers and other promotional items, whatever you have to offer.
Email marketing has a return on investment (ROI) of $42 for every $1 spent. In fact, 60 percent of consumers say they’ve made a purchase as the result of a marketing email they received. I know I certainly have, more than once! Especially if there’s a coupon included or a time-limited special offer. Things to consider when you’re writing your own emails.
Types of Email Systems
There are many different email marketing platforms that can help you manage your list and do the work for you, but there are also some free ones if you're not ready to invest just yet.
MailChimp is a popular one as it offers templates so all of your messages will look uniform when you send them out. It's also a great one to start with because they have a free plan.
Emma is another email system that’s easy to use and set up. It’s not the best when it comes to automation though and has some challenges with email design options. Plus their plans can get pricey for new bloggers.
FloDesk is another email marketing platform that you can use to manage your entire list. It has more of a pay-as-you-go pricing structure and does offer some great features such as pre-designed emails that look amazing. They also have automation that are easy to set up.
Drip is a really amazing email system. It has everything you need for integration and automation, but it also comes at a high price. It’s a lot to handle for a new blogger and way too much for someone who’s just getting started. It’s a great option for more advanced bloggers though, especially if you’re using Shopify.
My personal favorite email system is ConvertKit. I’ve used all of the systems that we’ve spoken about and ConvertKit is the most balanced option for new and more advanced bloggers. It has a good balance of affordable pricing and highly customizable features. Plus you can start completely for free! Why not give it a try?
Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective ways to market your business. If you don't have an email system yet, I recommend ConvertKit. They offer a free trial and their pricing starts for free so it's really affordable for any sized company or organization! Plus they're super easy to use - even if you've never set up a mailing list before.
